Tomorrow I take a break from work on my latest book and head off to Victoria for another round of school visits. I'm looking forward to it -- I just wish I were a bit more organized. Lately my mind seems to be ever in Egypt, and with the editorial deadline just three weeks away, I'm feeling a tad pushed. Never mind. It will all work out. I'll hit the deadline even if it means pulling a few all-nighters.
On Wednesday, I'll be visiting Royal Oak Middle School for their annual ROMS Reads Week. This is my sixth year taking part in the festivities. Royal Oak is my alma mater. It was my junior high school way back in the '60's. Okay, now you know I'm over 30. A month or so ago, ROMS moved into a brand new building, so it's going to feel a bit strange -- my old school -- but not (if you know what I mean).
Then on Thursday I'm off to Ecole Poirier in Sooke. It's Literacy Week there, so again I'm honoured to be invited to take part. All I have to do is find the school. That's the part of visiting schools I hate. For some reason, I don't seem able to read a map, look for street signs, watch the traffic, and get in the correct lane all at the same time. BUT this time I'm feeling quite optimistic. For starters, my husband is going to chauffeur me, so if we get lost, it's his fault, not mine. More importantly though, we're going to buy a GPS unit, so all we have to do is turn left or right when the voice inside tells us and we're home free!
