Imagine a classroom where all the students enjoy writing so much that they choose to do it in their free time. And not only do they enjoy writing, they're good at it too -- and getting better all the time. Now imagine never having to face a mound of marking, nor having to attach a definitive letter grade to a subjective process.
No, this is not a dream. It is not an illusive Utopia. It actually existed -- in my classroom. And it could exist in yours too. It is a self-sustaining, individualized writing program that is fun and effective -- and I am delighted to share it with other teachers.
The program isn't designed to replace the teaching of writing concepts and skills, but to reinforce them at levels appropriate to individual needs. The program promotes mastery, but in such a way that all students succeed. No more writer's block. No more stacks of stories that read like a minute-by-minute recitation of the world's most boring day. No more pages of indecipherable dialogue. No more rambling essays.
The groundwork and structure of the program are so clearly laid out, that the program basically runs itself. Students assume the responsibility for their own learning. The teacher is simply the facilitator.
Suitable for all levels.
