Yeah -- like I need another project. (Just in case you're wondering, that was the negative, I-don't-need-any-more-work part of me being snide.) And it's true, I don't need any more work. I already have a ton of projects on the go or lined up waiting to take off. But that doesn't stop me from adding another one to the list.
I confess this is not an original idea. I got it from visiting the website of Emily Pohl-Weary -- well, it's not really her site; it actually belongs to Natalie Fuentes, the central character in a series Emily writes. The website represents Natalie's bedroom where she churns out a 'zine' on her computer. By running the cursor over various items in the room, the visitor becomes privy to information about Natalie, her friends, and the mysteries she solves. JK Rowling did something similar with Harry Potter, and Melanie Jackson (author of the Dinah Galloway books) gives Dinah her very own blog.
If it works for those writers, count me in too.
So here's what I'm thinking. My Zach & Zoe series would lend itself well to having an independent website. Rather than set it up like a room though, I think I might try to make it like a scrapbook of their adventures. It would be a great way to hint at upcoming Zach & Zoe novels too. I don't know how I'd get the scrapbook's pages to turn, but that's a minor detail (I hope.)
Hmm ... I'm thinking a long conversation with my computer whiz son is in my future.
